This strikingly modern multi-family residential development redefines the urban streetscape with its bold geometric façade and dynamic structural expression. The design is characterized by an eye-catching red structural grid that gradually increases in bay size towards the corner, adjacent to the Queensboro bridge access ramp. This strategic progression in scale creates a sense of acceleration and movement, amplifying the building’s relationship with the urban flow and vehicular dynamics of the site.
The vibrant color palette further enhances this effect, visually reinforcing the sensation of speed and momentum influenced by the Italian futurist movement. The color ranges from a dark red brick color to match the context to golden gate red as a nod to another famous bridge in San Francisco.
The interplay of structure and transparency is a defining feature, with expansive floor-to-ceiling glazing that maximizes natural light while offering panoramic city views. The structural grid also allowed for an innovative vertical circulation core which allowed the architect to increase the allowable zoning floor area and thus increase the developer unit count. The building is approximately 20,000 square feet with 3 floors of medical facility and 4 floors of residential units.
